About 1 in 8 women born in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in her life. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a great opportunity to learn about the genetic and lifestyle risks, as well as the importance of screenings for early detection.

Many women who develop breast cancer do not have any known risk factors. Advances in genetic screenings make it possible to detect some high-risk patients. In addition, research has shown there are lifestyle risk factors linked to breast cancer. North Memorial hosts this important Women’s Night Out to focus on screenings for early detection, advancements in genetic screenings, and the role a healthy diet plays in reducing the risk of breast cancer.
