Visitors to this weekly market will not only find fresh food from growers, they will also find one-of-a-kind handmade goods and other items from makers and artisans. The market is a celebration of food and art. Get your seasonal produce, have a bite and listen to some music in a festive environment.

2. Hiking at Nerstrand Big Woods State Park
When: Daily, 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.
Where: Nerstrand Big Woods State Park, 9700 170th St. E., Nerstrand
Just a short drive to Nerstrand you’ll find this state park, which features a short hike to the Hidden Falls waterfall. Pack a picnic and enjoy a meal at the picnic area. Along with the nature and wildlife that will abound, consider a birding quest. Binoculars and identification guides are available for check out at the park office.

3. Cowling Arboretum at Carleton College
When: Daily, 5 a.m. - 10 p.m.
Where: Located on the Carleton College campus, with main access and parking at Spring Creek Road, Wall Street Road and Hwy. 19
Whether you want to go for a run, take the kids on a nature walk or do some fishing, the arboretum offers a peaceful environment. The arboretum has 15 miles of trails to explore. From birds to butterflies, fungi to fish, there is a wide variety of flora and fauna to explore.

4. Girls Night Out
When: Friday, May 8, 4 - 11 p.m.
Where: Downtown Northfield
Grab your besties and head out for a chill evening of shopping and dining in the downtown core. Shop at participating stores for specials and giveaways happening all night long. This event has become a treasured tradition.

5. International Festival of Minnesota
When: April 10 - 11
Where: Saint Paul RiverCentre, 175 W. Kellogg Blvd., St. Paul
This festival is a celebration of culture, food and music. The event took a hiatus and is back this year and expected to draw thousands for the global cuisine, music, dance and activities. Enjoy a day trip to St. Paul for this gathering of more than 60 nations and ethnic communities.

6. Free Thursday Nights
When: Thursdays, 5 - 9 p.m.
Where: The Walker Art Center, 725 Vineland Place, Minneapolis
The great thing about being near major metropolitan cities is the opportunity to take a short drive and see different sites. It’s even better when they’re free. The art museum stays open late on Thursday and visitors can explore the galleries, view film screenings and grab a drink and a bite to eat.
