A Beautiful Day for a Swim
Visitors to Northfield's Old Memorial Pool enjoyed a rarity on Tuesday afternoon: a near-perfect day for a swim.
Visitors to Northfield's Old Memorial Pool enjoyed a rarity on Tuesday afternoon: a near-perfect day for swimming.
A cloudless sky and warm temperatures welcomed swimmers as they began to arrive after the pool's 11:30 a.m. opening time.
Northfield continues to dry out from a wet stretch of weather that was less than perfect for swimming or other outdoor activities.
The National Weather Service says the Twin Cities metro area has received 5.17 inches of rain since June 1, 0.79 inches above normal.
So far this year, says the weather service, the metro area has received nearly 21 inches of precipitation. That's nearly seven inches more than normal.
The weather forecast for the rest of this week, including the Fourth of July, calls for ideal swimming weather. Sunny skies and highs near 80 are predicted through the weekend.
The Old Memorial Pool is open 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily through Aug. 11. End-of-season hours begin the following day.
