Alcohol Factor In Wrong-Way Crash Killing Woman Near Northfield: MSP
A woman from Iowa was killed Sunday after the vehicle she driving was struck by a wrong-way driver on Highway 19, according to authorities.
RICE COUNTY, MN — A woman from Iowa was killed early Sunday after the vehicle she was driving was struck by a wrong-way driver on Highway 19 near Northfield, according to authorities. The Minnesota State Patrol believes alcohol was a factor. The crash occurred at 12:14 a.m.
Kacy Elizabeth Merseal, 29, and passenger Tanya Marie Von Weine, 30, both from Iowa, were traveling in a 2008 Volkswagen EOS westbound on Highway 19. A 2017 Lincoln Navigator was traveling eastbound (wrong way) in the westbound lane, according to authorities. The Lincoln collided with the Volkswagen head-on.
Merseal was killed in the crash. Von Weine suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Northfield Hospital. Brandon Patrick Dellwo, 29, of Shakopee was the driver of the Lincoln Navigator. He suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Northfield Hospital. MSP said alcohol was a factor in Dellwo's driving.
