• Joseph Lee Heywood's Stand During Northfield's Bank Raid (kdhlradio.com) — Northfield residents gathered today to mark 150 years since the James-Younger Gang's failed raid on the First National Bank, honoring clerk Joseph Lee Heywood and other local heroes. The commemoration leads straight into this week's Defeat of Jesse James Days, with memorials, reenactments, rodeos, races, and a grand parade, many requiring a $5 button and centered around downtown and the cemetery near Northfield High School.
   

• Gary David "Cecil" Hutton (wanamingomn.com) — A Kenyon-area farmer and pilot who was born in Northfield and attended Northfield schools has died at age 74. His life ranged from crop-spraying by helicopter to creating a wildlife refuge on his Goodhue County farm, and he stayed closely connected to area communities through music, markets, and friendships. A memorial service is planned this Saturday in Kenyon.
