Northfield Schools Put Greater Focus on Students' Social and Emotional Skills (kymnradio.net) — Northfield Public Schools is expanding its focus on students' social and emotional skills, alongside academics, using student surveys and updated research-based tools. At the latest School Board meeting, leaders highlighted strong self-reported social skills at Northfield Middle School and described counseling, curriculum, and support programs aimed at boosting belonging and connections with trusted adults.
2. Carleton College announces new 'no loan' financial aid policy (bringmethenews.com) — Northfield families with current or future Carleton students could see a big break, as the college will remove all loans from need-based financial aid packages starting next fall and replace them with grants, scholarships, and work-study. Funded by tens of millions in donations, the change aims to reduce student debt and broaden access to Carleton's nearly $100,000 annual cost of attendance.
3. Minnesota High School Football Poll (seattlepi.com) — Northfield football fans will notice the Raiders getting some statewide respect, as the latest Minnesota high school poll lists Northfield among Class 5A teams receiving votes. While not yet ranked, the mention signals that coaches and media are watching the team's early-season performance closely.
4. Opening Convocation for 2026–27 academic year features Governor Tim Walz and major financial aid announcement for Carleton – News (carleton.edu) — Northfield residents saw their town spotlighted as Governor Tim Walz praised Carleton and Northfield's community spirit during Opening Convocation, while President Alison Byerly announced Carleton will drop loans from all financial aid packages starting in 2027–28.
