Peter Francis Blesener, 89

Peter Francis Blesener was born September 24, 1923, in Northfield to Dominic and Abbie Rose (Finn) Blesener.  He was baptized and confirmed at Annunciation Catholic Church.  He attended District #22 County School, Rosary School and graduated from Northfield High School in 1941.  Following his education he farmed in Greenvale Township with his father and later with his brother.  On July 20, 1979, Peter married Verna Henry Cihak at Church of the Annunciation.  After marriage they made their home on Peter’s farm.  Verna passed away on January 22, 2008.

Peter was a lifelong member of Annunciation Catholic Church.  He was a member of Knights of Columbus at St. Dominic, Eagle’s Club, Treasurer of the Northfield Rural Fire Department for 30 years and on the Greenvale Township Board for 21 years.  He enjoyed reading, doing community service work, visiting with people and going to the Quarterback.  He was honest, soft-spoken, likable and a man of Christian Faith.

Survivors include his step-children and their spouses: Eileen and Larry P. Malecha of Faribault, June Tupy of Montgomery, John and Robin Cihak of Ogilvie, Jim and Connie Cihak of Lonsdale, Barbara and Butch Malecha of Northfield; his step-daughter-in-law, Mary Cihak of Braham;  numerous step-grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Mildred Blesener of Tracy; his nieces:  Rose Blesener (Bill Daly) of St. Cloud, Joanne McCabe (Tom) of Madelia, Anita Shikoski (John) of New Ulm; his nephews: Paul Blesener (Kathy) of Cottage Grove, Charles Blesener (Kathleen) of Elk River;  his in-laws: Lester Henry of Lakeville, Lillian Erickson of Iowa; other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife Verna, his parents, his brothers Dominic and Anthony, his step-daughter Carol Ann Cihak and his step-son Francis “Butch” Cihak.

Following a brief illness, Peter passed away with his family by his side on Wednesday evening, May 1, 2013, at the Northfield Hospital, at the age of 89.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, May 6, 2013, at Church of the Annunciation in Hazelwood with Fr. Thomas Rayar and Fr. Dennis Evenson officiating.  Music will be provided by Kathleen Young.  Interment will be in Annunciation Church Cemetery.  Casket bearers will be Charles Blesener, Paul Blesener, Jason Cihak, Jeremiah Cihak, Rick Malecha and Dan Vosejpka.  Visitation will be 2-5PM Sunday, May 5, 2013, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield.  Visitation will continue at the church on Monday one hour prior to the funeral.
