Driving in downtown Northfield today is a bit trying, to say the least. Combine the beginning of the Sixth Street construction project with street closures linked to tonight’s Taste of Northfield, and you have a recipe for detours. This morning, construction crews closed Sixth Street between Water and Division streets to start a complete rebuild of the street. The intersection of Water and Sixth remains open, but the intersection of Sixth and Division is closed. Signs alerting drivers to the construction have been placed on Division, Washington and Sixth streets. As for the Taste of Northfield street closures, a portion of Water between Bridge Square and Fifth Street was blocked off Wednesday morning so that a giant refreshment tent could be erected. This morning, Fourth Street between Division Street and the Cannon River closed for the city’s showmobile and food vendors. Expect additional street closures and parking restrictions after 4 p.m. in downtown, particularly on Division Street between Fifth Street and Bridge Square.
