Annual Meeting of the Friends of the Cannon River Wilderness Area

The Friends of the Cannon River Wilderness Area will hold the Annual Meeting on Saturday, February 9, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm in the Northfield Library Meeting Room to elect new officers, review the past year’s efforts, and take up future needs and priorities. All are welcome!

Founded in 1997, the Friends of the Cannon River Wilderness Area (FCRWA) aim to carry on the founding citizens’ engagement by preserving and enhancing the many natural values of the Park. Members have undertaken such projects as giving guided walks and publishing maps and brochures. They have also worked with Rice County Parks personnel to plant trees, eradicate buckthorn, and conduct controlled burns. Their efforts have been greatly enhanced by the work of the local Boy Scout troop, by the research carried out by St. Olaf and Carleton professors and students, and by the Minnesota Conservation Corps. Most of all, the FCRWA wants to encourage responsible enjoyment and appreciation of this unique resource in all seasons and welcomes new members to share in its endeavors.
