How and Why to Have a Rain Garden

Cost: FREE  Presenter: Dustin Demmer
Planting a rain garden improves water quality and reduces the risk of localized flooding while providing a beautiful landscape feature that’s planted with long blooming native perennials. Rain gardens capture water from downspouts and allow it to soak into the ground rather than run untreated into our rivers and lakes. Learn about the benefits and how to design and install your own rain garden. Get info on the new Rain Garden Cost Share program being launched by the City of Northfield - a 50% cost share to approved rain garden projects with a $250 maximum reimbursement. Bring a rough sketch of your property layout and downspouts for more site-specific advice. Dustin Demmer is a MN GreenCorps service member being hosted by the City of Northfield to promote low impact development practices such as rain gardens.

Registration is required, even for free presentations. Be sure to register at least 72 hours in advance through our secure online registration www.justfood.coop/events or stop by the store at 516 Water St S.
