Riverwalk Market Fair Celebrates National Farmers Market Week

Riverwalk Market Fair is celebrating National Farmers Market Week (August 5 to 11) by inviting visitors to taste free samples of local farmers’ foods including salsa, pesto, pickled produce and jams, along with fresh baked pastries and breads. While at the Fair, visitors also can try their hand at throwing pots on a potter’s wheel, pick up a coupon for discounts on shoes and fashion, support inventive youth entrepreneurs and learn about Northfield’s latest recycling project while a talented banjo player plucks his tunes for their enjoyment.

Recently retired as Rice County’s director of community corrections, ceramics artist Jim Haas will demonstrate his craft on Saturday, and encourage visitors to give his wheel a spin, as well. Haas has been making ceramic art since 1973. Although he has exhibited regionally, he says, “I like working with clay and experimenting but I do not yet know what kind of potter I want to be when I grow up.”
