St. Olaf Theater Department presents Antigone

Antigone
by Jean Anouilh, translated by Barbara Bray

Directed by Sofia Galloway '13

Like the classic Greek play, Anouilh's Antigone is a self-aware play about a young girl (Antigone) that defies the laws of Creon, her uncle and king, by burying the corpse of her brother--a condemned traitor. Antigone and Creon must weight duty to family, state, and self against the crime. Their battle is complicated by love, power, and gender toles to remind the audience that at the brink of adulthood, our perception of morality is challenged.Antigone asks us to contemplate whether is it better to live a lie or die for the truth and examine the repercusions of that decision.
