The Tempest
By William Shakespeare
Directed by Dona Werner Freeman

Twelve Years after being exiled to a deserted island, the sorcerer and former Duke of Milan, Prospero, invokes an outragous storm in order to beach his wrongdoers for a final confrontation. His storm washes up royalty, drunkards, and clowns, offering his daughter Miranda a cast of characters worthy of her exclaimation, "Oh brave new world, that has such people in it!" Weighing virtue against revenge, Prospero prepares to relinquish power over his savage slave Caliban and his spiritual muse, Ariel. The Tempest, Shakespeare's last great play, maybe his most autobiographical, as playwright and character alike put the final touches on their careers of creativity and power.
