Faribault Train-SUV Crash: Two People Injured Friday

Two people were injured in Faribault ​Friday morning in a train-vehicle crash involving an SUV.

FARIBAULT, MN — Two people were injured in Faribault Friday in a train-vehicle crash involving an SUV. On July 7 at 9:19 a.m., officers from the Faribault Police Department, Rice County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, as well personnel from the Faribault Fire Department and North Ambulance all responded to a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a train.

The crash occurred in the 1400 block of 2nd Avenue NW near Faribault Woolen Mills. Police say the initial investigation indicates a 2011 Infinity SUV, driven by Shan Roehrick, 49, was southbound on 2nd Avenue NW when it struck a train (boxcar) backing across 2nd Avenue NW.

The driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle. A railroad employee on board the train, Damien NorthO’Brien, 26, was also injured along with the driver of the SUV. The driver of the SUV needed to extricated from the vehicle, and both parties were airlifted from the scene.

Roehrick was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, and North-O’Brien was flown to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, according to a news release. The extent of their injury and condition is unknown.

Faribault police and the Minnesota State Patrol Reconstruction Unit are continuing the investigation. Criminal charges at this time are unknown as the case is ongoing, police said.
