Filing for Ward 4 Special Election Opens July 30
Ward residents have until Aug. 13 to submit their candidacy documents at City Hall.

At least one resident has made her intentions known to file for candidacy in this fall’s Ward 4 City Council special election.
Jessica Peterson White, who was sworn in to fill the Ward 4 vacancy after then-council member Patrick Ganey resigned last fall, recently told the Northfield News she plans to file.
Filing period for the special election runs from 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13. The special election is Tuesday, Nov. 5.

The winner of the election will serve as the ward’s representative on the City Council for one year.

Candidates can file an Affidavit of Candidacy with Deb Little, city clerk, at City Hall, 801 Washington St., Northfield.
Here are the qualifications to run for office in Northfield:
• Be qualified to vote.
• Be at least 21 years of age on the date he or she would assume office.
• Be a resident of the city and of any ward he or she seeks to represent, or will become a resident therein at least thirty (30) days before the election.
• Have no other affidavit on file for any other elected office.
• Pay a $5.00 filing fee.
• File an Affidavit of Candidacy form in the office of the City Clerk.
• Complete and file the public disclosure statement prescribed by the city's ethics ordinance.
• Complete and file Campaign Finance Reports.
After this fall’s election, the Ward 4 seat again will be up for election in November 2014.
