From Early June to March?
The National Weather Service is calling for a return to below-normal temperatures on Wednesday. Some residents were able to enjoy a rare beautiful spring day in Northfield on Monday.
Monday’s weather seemed a lot like early June. Wednesday’s weather probably will seem a lot like March.
The National Weather Service says the balmy weather Northfield has experienced since last Friday quickly will become a memory, as wet and unusually chilly days are on the way for the first few days of May.
The weather service’s forecast issued Monday night was calling for a decent day on Tuesday, with a high of 74. That's expected to be followed by falling temperatures, rain and—you guessed it—snow by Wednesday night. Between one and three inches of the frozen stuff could fall late Wednesday night.

On its forecast map, the weather service says this week's weather has the "potential for [a] rare May snow accumulation."

Snow was the least of Northfield residents’ worries Monday afternoon, as those folks fortunate enough to be outside basked in 70-degree temperatures and cloudless skies.
A handful of anglers were casting into the swollen Cannon River north of Bridge Square while patrons sat on the riverfront patio at Froggy Bottoms and ate a leisurely lunch.
Carleton College students relaxed on blankets on the Bald Spot while classmates—some going shirtless—played Frisbee.
Parents with strollers made their way up and down Division Street.
Some of those sights could return as soon as next Monday, when the weather service’s long-range forecast is calling for a return of sunny skies and 60-degree temperatures.
