Despite less-than-ideal weather conditions for garage sales, the sixth annual Goods for Good has had its best year in terms of fundraising.
The more than two dozen garage and rummage sales that took part in Northfield’s city-wide philanthropic effort last month combined to raise more than $33,000 for a variety of charities.
The record-setting effort took place even though some sales were disrupted by rain showers on both days of the mid-May event.
Fifth Bridge, Northfield all-volunteer organization that promotes volunteerism and philanthropy, coordinated the event.
Here is a portion of a letter Candy Taylor, Fifth Bridge’s executive director, emailed to Good for Good participants last week:
I wanted to take is opportunity to say thank you to everyone who participated in the Goods for Good Northfield City Wide Rummage Sale event. The event was a huge success, in spite of Mother Nature’s lack of cooperation, because together we raised over $33,000 for charity, all from items that were no longer wanted by their owners. Congratulations on the results of your hard work and a heartfelt thank you to you and all your volunteers for their service and generosity.
All donation checks that were turned into us were mailed out last week with instructions for the charity to send gift acknowledgements to the donors.
Here is an entry on Fifth Bridge’s website detailing this year’s effort:
Our 2013 event was the 6th anniversary of the 5th Bridge Goods for Good Event and it was our best year ever, raising over $33,000 for various charities (all from unwanted goods). The weather was considerably less than perfect, but since the majority of the 25 sites were under roof the event still flourished and we had a lot of fun (check out the photos on our website). THANK YOU to all the volunteers who hosted the sales, all the donors who donated goods to sell, and all the shoppers who supported the sales. Let’s do it again next year and get all your friends involved too. Tentative Dates: May 16th & 17th, 2014.
