It’s Rice County Fair Time

The 140th edition of the fair, based in Faribault, runs from Tuesday, July 16, through Sunday, July 21.

WHAT IS THE RICE COUNTY FAIR: The annual fair offers a variety of entertainment, food vendors, animal and craft judging and exhibits. In addition, special programs are conducted at the nearby Rice County Historical Society.
WHEN: Tuesday, July 16, through Sunday, July 22.

WHERE: Rice County Fairgrounds, 1814 Second Ave. NW, Faribault.
ADMISSION: There is no charge for admission into the fairgrounds and into exhibits, most stage shows and animal barns. Tickets to grandstand events are $15 each.
PARKING FEE: Daily parking is $5. A full-fair parking pass is $20.
MEDALLION HUNT: The fair’s medallion hunt begins at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Clues will be posted daily until the medallion is found on the fair’s website and at the fair manager’s office. Here are the other rules:
• The medallion will be hidden within the confines of the Rice County FairGrounds.
• The hidden medallion will be easy to retrieve, so no moving or lifting of any exhibit.
• Fair board members, employees or their close family members are not eligible
• When found, the winner is to return the medallion to Fair Manager’s office to claim prize package.
OTHER FAIR CONTESTS: Information on the fair’s slate of contests—fair photo contest, chocolate classic, Rice County spelling bee, salsa contest, hog calling contest, apple pie contest and chili contest—is available on the fair website.
RICE COUNTY FAIR QUEEN: Ten girls are vying to be crowned as Rice County Fair Queen at 7 p.m. Tuesday, said the Lonsdale Area News-Review. Contestants are Annalise Barry of Faribault, Breannca Bussert of Faribault, Grace Cannon of Faribault, Elizabeth Deutsch of Londsale, Caitlin Juvland of Faribault, Megan Klapperich of Faribault, Melissa Lira of Faribault, Meghan Malecha of Northfield, Emily Vikla of Lonsdale and Kelsey Westad of Faribault.
