Start off the New Year with a Northfield Public Schools Community Services class. Programs for students of all ages and abilities are available throughout the year.
The Middle School Science Olympiad Team returns this year and classes start as early as Jan. 14. The cost of the class is $69 and offers students in grades 6 – 8 an opportunity to explore the exciting world of math, science and technology with interesting weekly experiments and projects in a fun environment; as well as an opportunity to participate as part a school team at regional and state levels for Northfield.
Get out and about and enjoy a winter wonderland with many recreational, outdoor adventure options including Cross Country Skiing, Full Moon Snowshoeing Hikes and Adventure Racing. Get advice on technique, equipment and terrain while exploring more of Northfield. Classes start from Jan. 4 and continue throughout February and March. Outdoor Pursuits and Publications for adults, as well as Adventure Mania for youth, make their program debut in January with participants getting an opportunity to first read through and discuss a thought-provoking book about a particular outdoor activity; and then taking that adventure right off the page and into a real life experience, led by skilled guides. January’s activity is Cross Country Skiing, followed by Snowshoeing, Teambuilding and Rock Climbing. Participants can register for a full season, or for a single monthly activity.

Bust your cabin fever with some fun and educational enrichment classes including Beginning Dog Obedience with Carol Nassif, starting on Tuesday, Jan. 7. The cost of the class is $84 and takes place over seven weeks at Fissan Training Center in Faribault. Quilting with a Modern Flair, is a great introductory class to basic sewing and quilting skills for the beginner, and you get to finish a beautiful quilt to compliment your home décor at the end of class! The cost for the class is $59 and runs as a Saturday morning workshop from Jan. 18 – Feb. 1, at the Middle School.
Early Childhood Family Education is also offering exciting events this month, including, Fantastic Friday Night Movie and Literacy Night, on Friday Jan. 24. There is also an ECFE Baby Shower on Friday, Jan. 10, for community members who have either had a baby in the last 6 months or who are currently expecting. All other regular ECFE classes are currently open for registration and start on Monday, Jan. 13.
