Jefferson Road Work Increases on Monday; Other Routes Advised

Jefferson Road residents are being assessed to $128,000, or about 42 percent, of the $300,000 project.

Work on Jefferson Road will increase next week.

Work started on the road on Sept. 6, and so far crews have installed the new sidewalk and drive aprons on the west side of the project corridor, which extends from Jefferson Parkway to Hidden Valley Road, according to Northfield Engineer Tech Sean Simonson in an email. He says the work has had minimal effect on traffic patterns.

Starting Monday, Simonson wrote that crews will begin the reclamation process on Jefferson Road from Jefferson Parkway to Hidden Valley Road.

"A reclamation consists of a machine grinding up the existing pavement and some of the gravel subgrade below," he wrote. "The machine mixes this material together and as it comes out of the back of the machine it is placed back in the roadway. This material is then reshaped and compacted to provide the new aggregate base for the street."

Traffic will be able to make its way through during this, Simonson said, but it's advised drivers take alternate routes, like Hwy. 3.
