From Beyonce to Miley Cyrus, feminism is on the lips of some of the US's biggest celebrities these days, and female sexual empowerment is the rallying cry. But at a time when the sexual double-standard remains strong, slut-shaming runs rampant, and women's bodies are objectified everywhere from porn to the mainstream media, it's easier said than done.
Weaving in a few lessons from our favorite pop stars, Maya Dusenbery, Executive Director of Editorial at the popular feminist blog Feministing.com, will discuss the challenges of navigating female sexuality in a culture plagued by both persistent gender inequality and deep shame about sex. She offers a vision of true sexual freedom for all.
