A southern Minnesota man died Tuesday morning after he was struck head-on by a teen in a pickup truck who was attempting to pass another car at the time. The teen, driving a Chevy Silverado, was northbound on Highway 56 in Dodge County when he attempted to pass another vehicle and fatally struck a man driving a Ford Focus going northbound head-on, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The accident took place north of Hayfield, Minnesota at 5:37 a.m. The Star Tribune reported that the man driving the Ford Focus was 66-years-old.

Highway 56 was closed for about four hours for the clean up and reconstruction of the crash. The MSP reminds motorists that passing other vehicles in the dark on rural roads is always dangerous, and to only do so with extreme caution.
