Naloxone Saves Woman Overdosing Near Northfield
"This victim is fortunate to be alive today," Sheriff Troy Dunn said.

RICE COUNTY, MN — Authorities say a woman is lucky to be alive after suffering an overdose just west of Northfield last week. On May 24, Rice County, Lonsdale, and Northfield emergency crews were dispatched to a report of an unconscious woman in Forest Township on Clearwater Trail.
CPR had been started by bystanders.
Rescue personnel found a pulse but the woman appeared to be in respiratory distress. Rice County deputies administered naloxone to her.

After a second dose, the woman was able to breathe on her own and started to regain consciousness. She was transported to the Northfield Hospital.

The naloxone used by the deputies comes from a statewide grant. Northfield Hospital paramedics provide training in naloxone to area first responders and those who work with at-risk populations.

- Call 911 immediately
- Stay on the scene
- Provide CPR
- Help emergency responders with information and drug details
