River Bend Nature Center will host a night sky presentation and night hike on Saturday, August 10 from 8 to 10 pm. The presentation will teach participants all about the summer night sky, with special focus on the stars and constellations that can be seen during the summer months. No previous experience or knowledge of constellations is needed and visitors will leave the program with the ability to trace constellations in their own backyards.
Following the presentation, the program will move outside in search of the freshly-learned constellations and other night phenomena. While hiking and stargazing along River Bend’s trails, visitors will participate in fun nighttime activities that highlight the human ability to see at night. The night hike will conclude with a summertime bonfire with everyone’s favorite treat: s’mores.
This program is free for River Bend members, $2 per individual or $6 per family for non-members. The Night Sky program is appropriate for people ages ten and up. This program will take place mostly outside so dress for the weather and bug spray is recommended. Pre-registration is required, please register online or by phone.
