Night to Unite, Junior Ambassadors, Outlaw Run: The Week in Northfield

Northfield always has something going on. Each Monday, Patch will kick off the week with a look ahead at what you need to know to join in. Here’s a look at what happening this week:
• NIGHT TO UNITE, Aug. 6—Here is information about Night to Unite from the Northfield Police Department website: Night To Unite is designed to get to know one another in your neighborhood, build neighborhood involvement by bringing police and communities together and bring awareness to crime prevention and local law enforcement. This year the Northfield Police Department will again taking part in the national Nite-To-Unite campaign aimed at helping neighborhoods come together to discuss crime concerns. The REGISTRATION FORM can be downloaded along with instructions and HOW TO TIPS to get started in organizing your neighborhood event. Registration forms can be downloaded from the link above, picked up at the Safety Center lobby, or by calling Nite To Unite Coordinator Sergeant Kevin Tussing at 507-663-9471.
• AUDITIONS FOR LUCILLE FLETCHER’S NIGHT WATCH, Aug. 6 and 7—The Northfield Arts Guild is seeking nine adult actors to join the cast of this production, which will run Oct. 11-13 and Oct. 18-20. Audition times are from 6:30 to 8:30 Tuesday and Wednesday at the arts guild.

• SUMMER OF SOCIAL MEDIA-PINTEREST, Aug. 8—Brand Yourself Consulting is conducting a free seminar about the importance of Pinterest in business from 12 to 1 p.m. Thursday at SPUR, 313 Division St. Event and registration is available on the Brand Yourself website.
• THE VICKSBURG CAMPAIGN, Aug. 8—This is the fourth in a series of discussions about the Civil War conducted by the Northfield Historical Society. Jim Stark, a student of the Civil War, will lead the talk. The free program begins at 6 p.m. Thursday at the historical society.

• RIVERWALK MARKET FAIR, Aug. 10—More details of this week’s edition of the popular Saturday morning festival in Northfield are available visiting the fair’s website.
• OUTLAW RUN, Aug. 10—The following is from the Northfield Historical Society website: We will start the day off with a re-enactment of the failed 1876 James-Younger Gang raid on the First National Bank of Northfield. We will then saddle up and head to New Trier, Red Wing, Goodhue and then back to Northfield for an after party at the upstairs Rueb N Stein. This year we are traveling Southern Minnesota like the James-Younger Gang did before the failed raid. Along the route we will have games at each stop and you will get a little bit of history of what the Gang did before raid. At the after party there will be music and prize drawings. • DEFEAT OF JESSE JAMES JUNIOR AMBASSADOR CORONATION, Aug. 10—Boys and girls ages 6 to 8 will be vying to become the 2014 junior ambassadors. The event is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Weitz Center for Creativity at Carleton College. More information about the program is on the DJJD website.
