No Drugs Discovered During K-9 Searches at Two Northfield Schools

Police dogs made rounds during routine searches at Northfield High School and Northfield Middle School on Tuesday morning.

K-9 narcotic searches at Northfield High School and Northfield Middle School on Tuesday morning did not turn up any drugs.

Northfield’s interim police chief, Chuck Walerius, told the Northfield News that the dogs searched lockers, locker rooms and parking lots during the routine search.

“They, luckily, found nothing,” he said. “The kids know we are going to do this one or two times a year, but the kids don’t know when.”

Here is the email sent out by Northfield Middle School Principal Jeff Pesta:

NMS Families:
The purpose of this message is to notify you that our staff teamed up with local law enforcement agencies this morning to conduct  a K-9 training exercise.  This served as an opportunity for officers to orient themselves to our building.  It also enabled us to check common areas of the building for any illegal substances.  In the past six years, our school has had an extremely low rate of chemical possession issues.  Although students generally respect the boundaries of the campus, there are students who experiment or struggle with chemical use.  Participating in an occasional search exercise insures that we have an accurate impression of student activity on our campus.   Students were made aware of the exercise while it took place and remained in their class sessions for the duration of the brief search.  There were no items of concern found.  We encourage you to talk to your child about their experience today and every day.
