Northfield Looks to Build Transit Hub As Ridership Grows
Data shows that bus ridership in Northfield has dramatically increased in the last four years.
A transit hub may soon be needed in Northfield if bus ridership continues growing at its current pace.
Northfieldnews.com reports that data from bus line company Hiawathaland Transit, which took over transit operations for Faribault in 2012, shows that ridership in Northfield has dramatically increased in the last four years.

In 2012, Northfield possessed Federal Transit Administration funds to build a transit hub, but the grant eventually expired.
Northfield City Administrator Ben Martig is currently working to assess the viability of building the hub as an addition to the Northfield Depot.

"We’re engaged right now at staff level, looking at designs for infrastructure, making sure it’s safe for all modes of vehicles coming in there," he said.
"We’ll be coming back to the City Council for further action on it."
