Northfield Makes List of Best College Towns in U.S.

Northfield was slotted at number 28, and it's one of two Minnesota towns that made the list.

Northfield, MN – Residents might not be surprised to learn that Northfield made the list of the best college towns in the nation.

Northfield was slotted at number 28. St. Peter, rated number 46, was the only other Minnesota town to make the list.

According to Business Insider, Niche, a company that researches and compiles information on cities, named the best college towns in America based on the overall livability of the towns.

To determine "livability," Niche focused on each city's cost of living, quality of the public schools, the percentage of residents who hold a bachelor's degree, and the area's real-estate market.

Niche also considered factors such as diversity, crime rates, and amenities.

"Northfield is repeatedly ranked as one of the best small cities in America, and between its two liberal arts colleges, politically active youth, and historic feel, it is a quirky and raw place to grow up," a lifelong resident told Niche.

Northfield, which has a population of about 20,303, was given a B+ for its nightlife, and a B- for its cost of living. The median rent, according to the study, is $730.
