Northfield Street Projects Progressing

From the City of Northfield, here is the City Administrator’s Memorandum from Northfield City Administrator Tim Madigan for July 26.

In this week’s memo, Sean Simonson, the city’s engineering tech coordinator, provides an update on street construction projects:

Maple Street/Prairie Street & Vet’s Park Neighborhood
Milling and paving crews were on-site this week to work on Prairie Street. Crews performed the 1-1/2” pavement milling, patching and 1-1/2” overlay on Prairie Street. Sodding crews were onsite to prepare areas for sod this week, along with retaining wall crews on both Prairie Street and Maple Street. Xcel Energy was on-site all week near the Sibley School entrance working on the relocation of the gas mains that are in conflict with the storm sewer relocations that are taking place in the Maple Street and School Entrance area.

Next week, crews are expected to finish up with the storm sewer relocations near the School entrance, and finish the remaining curb and gutter on Maple Street. Retaining wall crews are expected to continue installations of retaining walls on Maple Street next. Also, milling crews are expected to be on-site late next week to perform the 9-1/2” mill and class V gravel base placement on Maple Street. Paving crews are scheduled to be on-site the week of August 5th to place the initial lift of asphalt on Maple Street.

Sixth Street and Ninth Street Reconstruction
There was a considerable amount of work completed on the jobsite this week. Concrete crews spent the entire week working on curb and gutter installations, sidewalk installations, driveway apron installations, intersection paving, and crosswalk installations. Grading crews continued working on placing Select Granular Sand and Class V road base on Sixth Street between Division Street and Washington Street. Retaining wall crews spent all week working on the new poured retaining wall that is located along Sixth Street in front of the Reppe Law Office.

Next week, concrete crews will continue working on sidewalk and driveway aprons on the remaining portions of Phase II which is Sixth Street from Division Street to Washington Street. Brick paver crews are expected to be in early in the week to install the brick paver crosswalks in the Division Street and Sixth Street intersection. Retaining wall crews are expected to continue to work on the retaining wall near Reppe Law Office, and are scheduled to pour the majority of the wall next week. BCM is expecting to open the intersection of Division Street and Sixth Street next Friday, August 2, 2013.
