The Y Kids Tri is a fun, non-competitive triathlon that’s all about getting kids excited to get fit! Kids ages 6-14 will experience a morning of encouragement, cheers and satisfaction of completing the swim, bike and run event. There’s nothing like the excitement of crossing a finish line.
No experience is necessary! Kids are encouraged to train during the summer, so it’s a great way for family to get fit together. If you want to learn even more, look for the optional YMCA Kids Triathlon class offered in July as an additional, fun way to prepare and learn about what to expect on the event day.
Kids will be divided into 3 waves based on their ages as of July 13.
The Swim: Volunteers will be in the water and lifeguards on duty to make sure kids stay safe. A portion of the swim for kids 8-14 will be in deeper water. Kids ages 6-7 will swim on the shallower half of the lanes. Swim vests are permitted, and practice prior to the event is encouraged so all kids have a positive and confidence-building experience.
Transition Zone: You’ll have your own spot to set up your bike and gear! Run from the swim to your spot, put on your helmet, and get started on your bike!
The Bike: Kids will bike on a safe course on nearby neighborhood streets with volunteers along the entire course.
The Run: After the bike, you’ll drop off your gear and start the run. You’ll run on the field adjacent to the pool so family and friends can cheer you on as you cross the finish line!
