Northfield's Cannon ​River Crests at About 897 Feet

Water levels are expected to fall slowly, but the river will likely remain high for several days.

After several days of significant and rising water levels, city officials believe Northfield's Cannon River has crested at just above 897 feet.

Officials noticed waterfilling "storage areas" along the river, including Riverside, Babcock, and Sechler Park areas, as well as the west Riverwalk area.

The river levels are expected to fall slowly, but the river will likely remain high for several days, according to a news release.

Any significant rainfall in the Cannon or Straight River watersheds will slow this process, or make river levels rise again.

City staff will continue to monitor weather forecasts, rainfall amounts, and river gauges.
