PHOTOS: Northfield Swimmers Set True Team Records
The Gators broke two state swimming marks on Thursday, finished fourth as a team.

Though the Gators didn’t win the Class A True Team state meet on Thursday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center, they did steal the show throughout the night by setting meet records. Northfield took fourth overall, but the 200 freestyle relay and freshman Bailey DuPay in diving each broke meet records in Minneapolis.
“I’ve had no doubt in my mind that we have some girls that are really tough—I wasn’t aware at the beginning of the season just how special this team would be,” coach Doug Davis said. “Up to this point they have exceeded expectations.”

Hutchinson won the meet with 2,073.5 points, wrestling the title away from Visitation in the final two events. Northfield jumped from sixth to fourth after the final two events were scored and finished with 1,586 points.
One of those final two events was diving, where DuPay outscored 44 other participants to break her own True Team state mark. Her 386.50 performance bested her 357.05 record she set in 2010.

The 200 freestyle relay was equally impressive, finishing in 1:40.01. The team, consisting of Emily Anderson, Marla Thomforde, Emily Lundstrom and Grete Baker, bested Visitation’s 2008 record of 1:40.67.
Thomforde, Lundstrom, Anderson and Allie Clark nearly set a record for the 400 freestyle relay, too, finishing 0.4 seconds off the pace with a 3:39.68 time.
“We’re happy to be competitive and be up there racing in some of those spots,” Davis said.
Baker finished second in the 200 IM, Thomforde took third in the 200 freestyle, Anderson took third in the 50 freestyle, and Thomforde and Lundstrom finished second and third, resepctively, in the 100 freestyle.
