Raiders a Win Away From State Tournament

The Northfield girls soccer team has already ended the season of one Lakeville school. Now the other is all that stands between them and a trip to the state tournament.

The winner will advance to the Class AA state tournament, which starts Oct. 26. Based on a vote of the coaches of the eight teams that make it to state, the top four teams are seeded for the tournament, with their first-round opponents determined by random draw of the other four teams. As a No. 3 seed, the Raiders would likely not get a top-four seed and their playoff fate would be randomly determined.

THE RAIDERS GOT HERE BY …

Northfield (12-4-2) won a pair of one-goal games, upsetting No. 2 seed Lakeville South 2-1 in the semifinals and beating Farmington 1-0 in the first round. The Missota Conference champion Raiders were 0-2-2 after their first four games, then won 10 of their next 11—the only loss in that stretch coming against highly touted Woodbury— before losing their final regular-season game to Shakopee.

THE PANTHERS GOT HERE BY …

Lakeville North (16-0-2) has scored nine goals and shut out two opponents so far in the post season, beating Owatonna 5-0 in the semifinals after winning 4-0 over Rochester Mayo in the quarterfinals. The South Suburban Conference champion Panthers have shut out 12 of 18 opponents on the season.
