Raining Rocks In Mankato: Quarry Explosives Permit Suspended

Public safety officials have suspended a quarry's explosives permit after rocks reportedly went flying into a Mankato neighborhood.

MANKATO, MN — Public safety officials have suspended a quarry's explosives permit after rocks reportedly went flying into a Mankato neighborhood. At 10:35 a.m. Tuesday on routine protocol, public safety staff were in the Jefferson Quarry area to observe activity as part of Jordan Sands' permit to use explosives.

Mankato public safety staff reported rocks, varying in size up to 12 inches in diameter, sailing off quarry property during blasting and damaging a home's siding and a tree. The Jefferson Quarry explosives permit was immediately suspended pending an investigation into the cause of debris on private property.

Jordan Sands representatives arrived at Jefferson Quarry to evaluate and determine damage extent, according to a news release.
