Recent Deaths in Northfield, Week of Sept. 7, 2013
Five people with ties to Northfield died over the past week.
Gloria Helene Lundblad Thomas died Sunday morning, Sept. 1, 2013, at the Evergreen Lodge on the Northfield Retirement Community campus. She was 84.
She was born Feb. 16, 1929, on a farm in Danielson Township in Meeker County, Minnesota, to Holgar and Rhoda (Hansen) Lundblad. She grew up on the family farm near Rosendale. In 1947, she graduated from Grove City High School.
In May of 1949, she married John Leland Thomas. The couple lived in Litchfield until moving to Northfield in 1959. For much of her adult life, Thomas was a stay-at-home mother. After her kids were grown, she became skilled at furniture upholstery, first as an employee at Finger’s Upholstering then as a free agent. She retired in 2001.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, who died in June 2006.

Her survivors include her five children and their spouses, Bonnie of Northfield, Lonnie and Theresa of Brainerd, Kim and Ken Taylor of Northfield, Jim and Barb of Firth, Idaho, Corey and Carla of Northfield; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Adeline (Elgene) Bomstad of Park Rapids and Evelyn Czech of Plymouth; nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.
Kurt B. HornnesKurt B. Hornnes died on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was 58.
Hornnes was a well-known chiropractor in Northfield. Outside of work, he was an avid softball player and a family man, according to the obituary published in the Star Tribune.
"Kurt cherished the time he got to spend with his family, and never fell short of giving all those around him all of the love he had to offer," his family writes.
He leaves behind his wife, Sheri; children, Jamie, Jessie, Brittney, Robert, Christopher; niece, Christine, and many friends.

Charles James Tuma died at home, with his wife and family by his side, on Sunday morning, Sept. 1, 2013. He was 87.
He was born Nov. 3, 1925, on the family farm in Webster Township, about 15 minutes west of Northfield, to Albert J. And Anna (Simek) Tuma. When he was 11 years old, the family moved to a farm at Union Lake. He worked on the farm until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945. As a serviceman he was sent to Hawaii. He returned to farming after discharge.
In May 1949, he married Dolores Marie Marek. The couple farmed at Union Lake until moving to Northfield in 1975. Tuma worked for B&G Implement in Dundas, then became a carpenter for Paul Fink Construction in 1980.
Tuma is preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Gregory, Dennis, and Steven; his granddaughter, Jennifer Tuma; his in-laws, John and Ludmilla Marek; his brothers Albert and John; and his sister-in-law, Edith Schultz.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dolores; three children and their spouses, Charlene and Marty Burger of Northfield, Maynard and Kathy of Northfield, Luanne and Michael Reilly of Brighton, Michigan; daughter-in-law, Lee Norman of Brooklyn Park; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Francis (Marion) Tuma of Lonsdale; five sisters-in-law, Betty Tuma of Bloomington, Angela Tuma of Montgomery, Ruth (Harold) Johnson of Brooklyn Park, Johnette Marek of Oskosh, WI, Alice (Art) Hutchens of Waseca; two brothers-in-law, Wilfred (Alvina) Marek of Lonsdale and Arnold Schultz of Wells; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Edna Loreen Lufi, of Northfield and formerly of Randolph, died on Monday afternoon, Sept. 2, 2013 at Three Links Care Center. She was 94.
She was born on Sept. 11, 1918 in North Freedom, WI to Julius and Sarah (Grosinski) Matz. She graduated with the class of 1936 from New Leopzig High School.
In 1940, she married Nathan Lufi in Randolph. The couple farmed for 41 years. In 1981, they retired and moved to Northfield.
Lufi was a member of Randolph Baptist Church. She also chaired the ladies aid "WMF" and volunteered at Food Shelf and Community Action Center in Northfield.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nathan; son, Stanley; sister, Wilma; and brother, Raymond.
She is survived by her son, Steven (Cheryl) of Northfield; five grandchildren, Andrew, Philip, Kenneth, Daniel and Lynnea; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Eugene E. “Gene” Jasnoch
Eugene E. “Gene” Jasnoch died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013 at his home in Northfield, following a lengthy illness. He was 79.
Jasnoch was born on Aug. 8, 1934 in Winona, the son of Edward and Emma (Gottschalk) Jasnoch. He was raised in Winona. In 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After discharge in 1955 he returned home.
In November of 1955, he married Sharon Mae Kramer. The couple lived in Rochester and Winona before moving to Northfield in 1957. Jasnoch made a career as a developer, contractor, and home builder in the Northfield and Faribault.
Jasnoch is preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey Jasnoch; brothers, George Jasnoch, Jerome Jasnoch, and Edward Jasnoch Jr.; and sisters, Margaret Larson and Emily Hazelton.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughters, Jeanine (Stuart) Zook of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Jody Jasnoch of Plymouth; sons, Jonathan (Laura) Jasnoch of Northfield and Jay (Marvel) Jasnoch of Northfield; daughter-in-law Kathy Jasnoch of Northfield; six grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy (Edward) Podjaski and Joan (Gene) Strong; and brother, LeRoy (Lynn) Jasnoch. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, son Jeffrey Jasnoch; brothers George Jasnoch, Jerome Jasnoch, Edward Jasnoch Jr.; sisters Margaret Larson and Emily Hazelton.
