SLIDESHOW: Transformation of Old Northfield Middle School to Weitz Center for Creativity Complete

Carleton College holds an open house from 3-6 p.m. Saturday at the new Weitz Center for Creativity, formerly the Northfield Middle School. The public is welcome to tour the new space and enjoy music and light refreshments.

Attention, all fans of the former Northfield Middle School building—this weekend is your chance to see it in its new glory.

holds an open house from 3-6 p.m. Saturday at the new Weitz Center for Creativity, which occupies the former middle school.

The public is welcome to tour and enjoy music and light refreshments. President Steve Poskanzer will speak at 5 p.m. and Professor John Schott will speak at 4 p.m. about his exhibit featuring building demolition photographs.

The Weitz Center houses theater, dance, cinema and media studies programs, as well as interdisciplinary courses.

Changes to the building include removal of the 1950s "S-Wing" classroom addition on the east side; its replacement with a smaller addition connecting southeast and northeast sections of the building; and an addition replacing the former cafeteria that holds gallery spaces and storage.
