Southern Minnesota Teen In Coma After Crash: How To Donate

According to an update Tuesday afternoon, Megan Erie​​ is now able to hear her family speak, squeeze hands and wiggle her toes.

MOWER COUNTY, MN — Megan Marie Erie, 17, of Austin, Minnesota is in a coma after the sedan she was in collided with a pickup truck on Highway 218. The crash happened just after 4 p.m. Monday in Lansing Township.

A Chevy Cavalier — driven by 18-year-old Jazmin Claudia Portillo with Erie in the passenger seat — was traveling westbound on County Road 2. A Chevy pickup was southbound on Highway 218 when the two cars collided, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Erie suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash. Portillo suffered non-serious injuries. The driver of the pickup was not hurt.

Road conditions were wet at the time.

"Megan is in a coma at the moment with severe neck injuries, brain swelling, fractured skull, broken ribs and a lacerated spleen," reads the GoFundMe established to pay for Erie's medical bills.
