Apples are Here

The 2013 apple crop is looking good, and Pat McBride of McBride Farm in Wanamingo is pleased. 2012 was a terrible year for apples. A warm March was followed by an April freeze and topped off by hail and drought so most of the 2012 apple crop was lost. Many local growers also lost their 2010 crop to frost. After poor crops in two of the past four years, an abundant harvest is doubly welcome. Zestar, Williams Pride, and Red Free varieties are abundant now. Honey Crisp will be available by the end of September, followed by Haralson, Fireside, and Connell Red. https://www.localharvest.org/mcbride-farm-M36591
Featured Artist Gerie Thelen of Just Me Geralyn and Glass
Geralyn Thelen has been experimenting with new glass color combinations this summer in her vases, serving trays and lawn ornaments. In addition to her trademark blue-green-yellow combinations she has started a color line in grays with red accents, another in oranges, and third in bold florals. One very interesting piece features fused pottery shards in a golden yellow serving plate. What is Gerie’s best seller? “Everyone loves vases,” Gerie said. They are favorite gifts for weddings and at the holidays. Stop by and see Geralyn’s new works in glass. http://www.justmegeralynandglass.com
Musicians Amy and Adams and Budding Farmers Activities for Kids.
Minneapolis musicians Amy & Adams perform Saturday at Riverwalk. Mark and Amy Adams-Westin offer an engaging combination of original and cover tunes, with just the right stylistic mix of the new and the recognizable that they call Eclectic/FolkRock/TinPanAlley/Bluesgrass. Expect a sumptuous tapestry of guitars, vocals, keyboards, mandolin, ukulele and flutes. http://www.amyandadams.com
Kids can create art using stamps in various shapes cut from fresh vegetables and paint at Riverwalk on Saturday courtesy of the Budding Farmers program. At Riverwalk even the vegetables are a work of art! http://buddingfarmers.com
