The Tour de SAVE was a big success!

Thank you to all of our friends in Northfield, and from around the area, for helping make the Saturday, August 3, 2013 edition of the Tour de SAVE bicycle ride an outstanding success.  Each year, for the past ten years, the Tour de SAVE has raised money to help support the efforts of SAVE – Suicide Awareness Voices of Education.  SAVE is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit organizations dealing with suicide prevention.  Its mission is to “prevent suicide though public awareness and education, reduce stigma and serve as a resource to those touched by suicide.”

In Northfield over 125 people participated by riding 10, 20, or 50 miles of paved roads, or over 50 miles of gravel roads.  We had an especially strong showing of young riders.  Many people rode in memory of someone they had lost to suicide.

This year the Tour de SAVE was expanded to include events in Florida, California, Illinois, Virginia, and Fairfax, Minnesota.  Altogether we raised over $30,000 nationwide.

An event like Tour de SAVE could not happen without the help of many people.  We want to thank our national sponsors Neuger Communications Group, Cannon Valley Vet Clinic, Surescripts, and Seagate, along with local sponsors Podiumwear, Banjo Brothers, Multek, and Fit To Be Tri’d.  We also want to thank Rice County Engineer Dennis Luebbe for answering our questions about road conditions, Northfield Reserve Capitan Steve Moses, and the folks at the Northfield Public Works Department for clearing a bike path and for helping us use Riverside Park.   We also greatly appreciated the help of Sergeant Kevin Tussing, Reserve Captain Steve Moses, and Reserve Sergeant Derrick Bunde for providing traffic control for the bike riders.

Come join us next year.

Tour de SAVE organizers Bill Metz, Eric Bergh, Bruce Anderson, Sue Welch, Justin London, and Joe Pahr
