Dozens of drivers took to the streets for the second annual derby on Saturday.

The Northfield soap box derby race on Saturday morning may go down as the most roaring time of the 2012 Defeat of Jesse James Days.
Dozens of drivers took to the streets for the second annual derby. Drivers were stationed at and the course started at Plum Street South and ran east on Third Street West, taking a right onto Poplar Street South and then a left onto Fourth Street West for a dash to the finish.

A officer pointed his radar gun at the soap box cars heading down the hill and yelled "19!" to the nearby announcer. Later, the speeds topped out in the low 20-mph range, as the soap box derby cars picked up steam heading down to the last of two turns.
This year's soap box derby included quite a few different designs.

There was the classic soap box design, with a pointed front, widening to the back with just enough space for a rider to fit in. There was an Indy car, a Dukes of Hazzard model and even a Batmobile.
