Woman in Her 60s Fatally Shot in Northfield

The woman who reported the shooting, said to be in her 70s, ​was taken into custody but has since been released.​

A woman in her 60s has died following reports of a shooting in a Northfield home.

At about 7:50 a.m. on Aug. 14, Northfield Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Jefferson Road in Northfield to a report of shots fired inside a residence, with one person shot.

Initial information was that the shooting was related to an intruder in the home, according to a news release.

At the scene, police say they discovered the shooting victim and another woman who is said to have initially reported the shooting to police. The shooting victim, a woman in her 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman who reported the shooting, said to be in her 70s, was taken into custody but has since been released. Northfield News reported that the woman was released due to lack of probable cause.

Northfield officers are still investigating the scene of the incident.

Police say it does not appear the shooting was related to an intruder as originally reported,
and there is no danger to the public.
