Northfield always has something going on. Each Monday, Patch will kick off the week with a look ahead at what you need to know to join in. Here’s a look at what happening this week:
• END-OF-SEASON HOURS BEGIN AT OLD MEMORIAL POOL, Monday, Aug. 12—Beginning Monday, the pool will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. daily, according to the City of Northfield website. The last day of of the season will be dependent on weather and staffing. The pool will open earlier on Fridays in August as part of its Young Fun Fridays program. On Aug. 16, 23 and 30, children ages 5 and under can swim from 11:45 a.m-12:45 p.m. Regular admission prices apply.
• NORTHFIELD SCHOOL BOARD MEETING, 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12—The school board will conduct a regular meeting at Northfield High School. The agenda is on the district’s website.

• NORTHFIELD CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13—The City Council will conduct a work session on Tuesday. Items on the agenda include the downtown parking report, Cannon River study, stormwater regulations review and a review of preliminary summary budgets, issues and new initiatives.
• NORTHFIELD COMMUNITY YOUTH FAIRS, Wednesday, Aug. 14—The annual Northfield Community Youth Fairs are scheduled for Wednesday. Times are 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Greenvale Park Elementary School and 7-8 p.m. at Bridgewater Elementary School. The fairs will provide information on how youngsters can get involved in sports, arts, afterschool programs and other youth activities in Northfield. More than 30 youth organizations will be represented.

• SPUR BIRTHDAY PARTY, 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15—SPUR Northfield—a coworking site, business incubator and accelerator at 313-1/2 Division St.—is having a free community event to commemorate its first birthday. Here is information from SPUR: SPUR Northfield is having its first birthday party! We're excited to have been representing Northfield as a coworking center and business incubator this past year. If you're interested in coworking or just want to come check out our space, please come to our party! We'd love to have you.
• RIVERWALK MARKET FAIR, Aug. 17—More details of this week’s edition of the popular Saturday morning festival in Northfield are available visiting the fair’s website.
• FREE YOGA IN WAY PARK, 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17—The first of six free yoga sessions in Way Park is planned for Saturday. Melissa Sharp will instruct the classes, which are open to everyone. Childcare will be provided. The classes are being provided by the Friends of Way Park, through a Healthy Activity Grant from Allina Health’s Neighborhood Health Connection. Other class dates are Aug. 24, Sept. 21 and 28, and Oct. 5 and 12. Rain date is Oct. 19. More information is available on the Friends of Way Park website.
• DEFEAT OF JESSE JAMES DAYS AMBASSADOR CORONATION, 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17—The 2014 Defeat of Jesse James Days Ambassador Coronation is planned for Saturday at Northfield Middle School. The coronation is the culmination of the annual DJJD Ambassador Scholarship Program. Northfield area merchants and businesses provide prizes for the event. The DJJD Committee awards scholarships to three ambassadors. Admission to is $6 per person, plus $4 for a DJJD Button. Children under 5 are admitted free.
• NORTHFIELD YMCA COMMUNITY KICKBALL GAME, 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18—The Northfield Area Family YMCA will conduct a community kickball game from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at City Hall Park, Washington Street. The event is open to families, adults and children age 3 and up. Refreshments will be provided. Cost is $5 per child and $8 per adult. Participants can register online or at the Y’s office at 507-645-0088.
