• Former Panthers Ahelegbe, Sweeney squaring off in NBA Finals (unipanthers.com) — Oakdale residents have a hometown connection in this year’s NBA Finals: Knicks assistant coach Kwadzo Ahelegbe grew up in Oakdale and once worked for the Minnesota Timberwolves before climbing the coaching ranks. He now faces fellow former UNI staffer Sean Sweeney, the Spurs’ associate head coach and future Orlando Magic head coach, in a series that runs through mid-June.    

• Woman takes plea deal in torture death of Sam Nordquist (kare11.com) — An Oakdale family is watching a New York murder case move forward after a 20-year-old woman took a plea deal in the torture killing of 24-year-old Sam Nordquist, who grew up in Oakdale. The defendant agreed to testify against others charged, while Nordquist’s relatives prepare for the upcoming trial of his former partner, alleged to have led the abuse.
