Century Cos Students Win at Skills Comp
Century cosmetology students won big at the USA Skills Competition.
Century College cosmetology students last month won seven medals at the annual SkillsUSA state competition. Three students will advance to the national competition in Kansas City in June along with thousands of participants from across the country.
Century students won gold, silver and bronze medals in the hair competition, gold and silver medals in the nail competition and gold and silver medals in the skin competition. A student also received honorable mention in product demonstration.
Century student Allison Harder of Woodbury has been elected to a state office in SkillsUSA. She will serve as parliamentarian for the group. Allison is currently president of the Century chapter of SkillsUSA. Cosmetology instructor Thom Costa serves as chapter advisor.

SkillsUSA is a program that allows students to develop their technical skills as well as their workplace skills with the goal of becoming job-ready. Cosmetology students not only have to style hair, perform nail care and apply makeup on models during timed events, but they also have to take written tests and do oral presentations. SkillsUSA is a workforce development organization that aims to have young people become patriotic, well-rounded citizens.
