'I Could Talk All Day About Hawaii, But...'

"What would you do?" Not the best question to ask a travel consultant trying to help you plan your next vacation. Here's why....

Today a coworker of mine said: "I could talk all day about Hawaii, but..."

As travel consultants one thing we tend to do really well is talk about travel. And although we can talk all day about travel one thing that can really make our job difficult, that "but", is when somebody says "what would you do?"

What would we do? Well, that's not an easy question to answer. Not because travel consultants don't have favorite travel destinations, hotels, etc., we most certainly do, and we LOVE to talk about our travels. But, what we would do is not necessarily what you should do.

A good travel consultant takes the time to talk to you. They ask questions to learn more about you, your traveling companions, what everyone is expecting from the vacation, past travel experiences, etc., etc. Then we make recommendations. Recommendations based on what's best for you, not us. The last thing a good travel consultant wants is to send you on a vacation that you hate...no good...for anyone.

So the next time you're planning a vacation don't ask your travel consultant "what would you do?" instead ask them "what would you recommend for me (us)?" We like that question much more.
