Woodbury Leadership Academy (WLA) is a tuition-free, K-12 public charter school where high expectations and success matter to all! Our learning environment and school community promotes academic achievement for students in grades K-12, as well as personal integrity, equity and a dedication to value and serve others. Our school is committed to our students’ long term success. We use inquiry based learning by teaching the Core Knowledge Curriculum — building strong skills in math, reading, writing, history, science and technology. We also have a strong character education program to ensure students develop exceptional leadership skills. The character education program includes service learning projects and a focus of five core virtues - respect, responsibility, perseverance, gratitude and humanity. WLA uses the rigorous and classical Core Knowledge Curriculum to build strong foundational knowledge across subjects, promoting academic excellence and equity. By ensuring all students share common knowledge, we can narrow achievement gaps and build critical thinking and long-term success. The academic rigor at WLA prepares students for college and ready to lead. We out-perform the MCA Minnesota State average in all categories! Check out our report card. WLA is a public school with a private school feeling. WLA students wear school uniforms to promote equality, reduce peer pressure, and minimize distractions. Small class sizes at WLA allow for teachers and staff to provide personalized instruction, build strong relationships, and increase student engagement. The patient: A wireless home network The problem: Poor wireless reception in the newly remodeled family room and no printer access. The investigation: The previous geek (from a big box retailer dressed in black and white) solved the problem by adding a second wireless router and creating a second network for the new family room, but forgot to change the wireless printer's configuration for the new network. The solution: I removed the original wireless router and the new wireless router and installed an Airport Extreme Base Station and an Airport Express, both from Apple, and configured the Extreme to allow the network to be extended and then configured the Express to join the new network and extend the wireless into the new family room for better signal strength. I connected the printer to the Extreme Base Station via USB creating a shared printer for both the Windows and Mac computers. The new network had better performance throughout the house; it allowed wireless access to the printer for everyone; and, as a bonus, enabled AirTunes to share iTunes from any computer and to an Apple TV connected to the new entertainment system in the family room.  As a bonus, I added some software to her Mac which added the ability to print from her iPad. The result was a happy client who wants to return the geek's solution and get her money back.
