A few facts about spinal muscular atrophy (SMA):

Find out what's happening in Oakdalefor free with the latest updates from Patch.

-It is the number one genetic killer of children under the age of two

-It is a motor neuron disease that affects the voluntary muscles that are used for activities such as crawling, walking, head and neck control, and swallowing

-1 in 40 people are carriers of the gene

Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy was created to help, support and provide information for families that have a loved one affected with SMA.  We also work very hard to find a cure for this disease.
