Woodbury Leadership Academy (WLA) is a tuition-free, K-12 public charter school where high expectations and success matter to all! Our learning environment and school community promotes academic achievement for students in grades K-12, as well as personal integrity, equity and a dedication to value and serve others. Our school is committed to our students’ long term success. We use inquiry based learning by teaching the Core Knowledge Curriculum — building strong skills in math, reading, writing, history, science and technology. We also have a strong character education program to ensure students develop exceptional leadership skills. The character education program includes service learning projects and a focus of five core virtues - respect, responsibility, perseverance, gratitude and humanity. WLA uses the rigorous and classical Core Knowledge Curriculum to build strong foundational knowledge across subjects, promoting academic excellence and equity. By ensuring all students share common knowledge, we can narrow achievement gaps and build critical thinking and long-term success. The academic rigor at WLA prepares students for college and ready to lead. We out-perform the MCA Minnesota State average in all categories! Check out our report card. WLA is a public school with a private school feeling. WLA students wear school uniforms to promote equality, reduce peer pressure, and minimize distractions. Small class sizes at WLA allow for teachers and staff to provide personalized instruction, build strong relationships, and increase student engagement. The last band in Oakdale's Summer Concert Series plays Wednesday, Aug. 17, in Walton Park. Here's a little information on the band: What they play: Six-year-old <a href="http://bratpackradio.com" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">Brat Pack Radio</a> plays '80s radio hits, but also mixes in some current pop music. They play songs by artists including Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson, Madonna, The Eurythmics, Beyonce, Prince and many more. What to expect: The band mixes "top-shelf musical performances with spoof and carnival theatrics," according to their website. They poke fun at the excesses of the '80s and don't hesitate to throw in humor. Who's in the band: Ryan Lance, a four-time Emmy-winning songwriter and Jesse Langseth, a top-15 finalist on American Idol. When and where: The <a href="https://patch.com/E-fD1G" rel="noopener" target="_blank">free concert</a> is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the bandshell.
