Edlund Named Firefighter of the Year

Tom Edlund has been a firefighter for nearly 35 years.

Oakdale firefighter Tom Edlund was named firefighter of the year at the awards banquet May 13, according to a press release.

Edlund joined the Oakdale Fire Department in 1997, and is now a captain. Before that, he spent 20 years with the East County Line Fire Department, which used to cover the southern half of Oakdale. There he worked his way up to the rank of fire chief, according to the release.

 “He is a steady performer who through his nearly 35 years in the fire service has responded to thousands of calls whenever he was available and continues do the same today,” said Oakdale Fire Chief Jeff Anderson. “He is a person who wants to be right in middle of the action all the time.”

Edlund and his wife Bonnie live in Oakdale with their two children and Tom also has two adult children that also live in the area, the release says.
