Five Things You Should Know Today: May 29

Check out Oakdale Library's preschool storytime today at 10 a.m.

1. Put away the swim suits, we're in for cool weather today. The National Weather Service says that we have a 20 percent chance of showers after 1 p.m. and will reach a high of only 60. 

2. Do you have a child in preschool or kindergarten? Bring him or her to Oakdale Library's storytime at 10 a.m. today. Call Oakdale Library, 651-730-0504, with questions.

3. On this day in 1953, Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay, became the first explorers to reach the summit of Mount Everest, the highest point on earth. The mountain's dangerous weather recently made headlines for taking the lives of four climbers this month.
